Employment in Malta

The following section provides important information for international candidates regarding employment in Malta. When deciding to employ an international candidate (EU & Non-EU) in Malta, kindly enquire further for any updates through our national job provider, the Employment & Training Corporation (ETC).

EU citizens

  • Work permit is issued within a week
  • Applications must be submitted to the Employment Licences Unit in Hal Far or any Job Centre.
  • Be sure to read all the terms & conditions
  • Applications will be processed once payment has been made
  • Along with the application form, the employer needs to submit a passport photo of the candidate, a certified copy of the candidate’s passport and a covering letter.
  • When applying for an extension of the work permit, along with the above, the employer needs to submit a tax form stamped from the Inland Revenue.

Once application is submitted the Employment & Training Corporation will issue a Provisional Employment License, which enables the candidate to start work immediately. The definitive employment in Malta licence will be sent to the employer by post as soon as all the necessary verifications are done.
