Personal Development Plan

on 29 November 2020

“The best way to adapt to a world that is ever changing is to think in terms of a business model. (…) Consider yourself as a company created by only one person – you.” – Tim Clark, author of “Business Model You”

When you decide to improve your job position, you need to think in terms of personal growth.

You become more ambitious and motivated by adopting a mindset focused on the personal development at work. Growing means to be brave because you want to develop the courage to change and challenge yourself. Learning and growing comes through exposure to different and challenging situations, including some mistakes which will help you to mature! You will become more assertive once you recognise that you are growing; but, remember that you will always need to learn more and improve your skills. While it would be good exposure to take on new challenges, be moderate and always consider your capabilities before taking on too big challenges that would be too difficult to overcome. Setting realistic challenges are more likely to be successful.

What is the personal development plan?

The plan is referring to your career path in which you would want to progress in the short, medium and long-term. Through such a development plan you would analyse your skills, interests, needs, wishes, and goals to be attained and move along your career path as planned.

What you can do?

Think about your personal development plan like a cycle of steps in which you organize them in a way that these will bring you the results you are seeking. Look at our development plan below and change it to personalise it. As you can see, we have included the main considerations to help you develop your own plan:

  • the skills that you have and you wish to improve/learn

  • the goals that you would like to achieve

  • the actions that you need to do to attain your wishes

  • the time that you need to realise your goals

  • the contacts who can guide you and whom you can rely on

  • the results that you have achieved.
