What you can do to prepare yourself for the next interview

on 28 November 2020

The search for a job is a delicate phase of  life and it is quite often  stressful and characterized by some negative  emotions. This is especially true for people who are looking for iGaming jobs because the field they want to be in is very competitive. But the good news is that it is a precious period which can be transformed  in a useful and constructive path for your personal and professional identity.

Here is some stimulating advice which should be helpful to develop your professional personality and to achieve your goals. We know you have a lot of time to manage whilst waiting for the next interview, and it is not easy to understand how to manage your time  especially using  the right method.

Have you done your research?

If you’re well prepared, your next interview could bring the job you’ve waited for. The first step is to do some groundwork. The interview is bound to be a few days away, which gives you plenty of time.

If the person writing hasn’t enclosed any information about the company, phone the personnel (or Human Resources) department and ask for a copy of the latest annual report or a selection of promotional material. In case no printed material is available, have some questions ready when you phone. These could be about the size and activities of the organisation.

Preparation before the interview

A day or so before the interview re-read the job advert, your CV and the copy you kept of your application. Draw up a list of your strengths and weaknesses including all your skills, experience, interests, and personal qualities, not just those you think would be relevant to this particular job. Next, try to imagine yourself in the position of the person doing the recruiting. Write down all the qualities and abilities you think he or she will be looking for.

Write a list of all the questions the interviewer might ask and think of ways to answer that will bring in as many of your strengths as possible. Be prepared to explain why you left your last job or have been out of the workplace for so long. True, you may have spent several years at home, but that time has not been wasted. You’ve become an expert at budgeting, running a household, managing your time, soothing hurt feelings and getting small people to do things they don’t necessarily want to do. In short, you have developed a variety of skills, personal and administrative, which can equally well be used to get the best out of yourself and other big people in a work environment.

Don’t criticise

Don’t criticise a previous employer, admit to a personality clash or a poor work record – these are not reasons to inspire a potential employer. Stress the positive factors underlying your work history – your desire to progress, to have more responsibility or to acquire new skills.

You’ll almost certainly be asked why you want the job. Be as positive and enthusiastic as you can without gushing. Use your knowledge of the company to impress the interviewer and explain why it’s the perfect job for you. And don’t forget to stress what you can offer them.

Other ideas

Do you know how  important it is to speak languages fluently? Well, if you know only one language this is the perfect moment to learn  another one or if you would like to improve a language  it will be very useful. The recruiters will appreciate your diligence and will note your willingness  to improve yourself. There are many job opportunities that require specific language skills, such as Nordic or German.

Participating in sports activities instils positive feelings! Take your time to walk or run alone in the green areas of your city, to play basketball with some friends or maybe to play volleyball on the beach with them.  Do something that makes you more determined and  permits you to view the positive aspects in every situation. Basically, this is essential to improve one’s  quality of life.

You have the possibility to build your professional project with an easy tool called “Personal Branding Canva”. It is like a mood board, useful to devise your professional identity. You can create one at home with paper, pen and colourful post-it. You have to divide the sheet in these different and connected sections:

  • Identity (who are you?)

  • Skills (what can you do?)

  • Profession (what would you like to do and how you would like to do it?)

  • Reasons to believe (why are you credible?)

  • Investments (what do you need?)

  • Promise (so what?)

  • Positioning (why you?)

  • Audience (who needs to know?)

  • Communication (how do they know you?)

  • Results (what do you get?)

Now, choose one colour for each section and put on the post-it with the keywords you are thinking about while you are reading the questions in bracket. You can cut some words or images from newspapers or magazines, whatever you prefer! It is a creative and productive way to make yourself more confident about who you are and what you want.

Another thing that you can do is to take care of your hobbies and personal lifestyle. For example: a person with great life goals, manages to find a balance between work and interests while remaining highly motivated.

A useful way to verify if you are organised and moving in the right direction is to keep a diary in which you could write your daily or weekly actions and achieved goals. And in doing so you can master your time and monitor your  progress.

Do something for  other people such as volunteering. Whatever field will be good, just as long as you will believe in it and will do it from the heart!
